From the Heart
“From the heart” is the true reflection of Steen’s process of growth, a process of connecting her hands with the most intimate feelings of her soul. The looseness, the freedom, imperfect lines, unrecognizable but conscious phrases and graphics, neutrality… The predominance of the elemental, -black and white-, so necessary to find the balance in the present work and life of Carin Steen.

There is no sequence, but a unity; a feeling of liberty that defines the different states of the soul. We find an independent syncretisism. The movements and phrases show us the simplicity of the elements that unchain a series of interpretations. The most basic, primary colours, so free, so sincere, form textures that reflect certain abstractions which touch you through images that are tender but explosive.

On some occasions Steen attracts the attention of the spectator with a simple word:”love”, debating with a limited colour palette but one that at the same time shows a great capacity to express. We find ourselves standing in front of a work of a great artist who breaks the schemes of the plastic arts and makes us, easily, see ourselves in her work.

“From the most basic to the most explosive. Bold letters and slim ones, visions, small elements of life, pure life, hard and happy at the same time.”
